GAY Who are the Flatboi Downs - Part III

i think MJK's melodies were the defining piece of lateralus for me. that's where it felt like he came forward and shone most. that might be the biggest thing missing from this new one for me....he teases a great melody on the first track, then i don't think he really stands out again until near the end of the record.

would be interesting to see how this would have been received in 2011 vs now.

Well I'm going to listen to the new Tool album tonight. I've never listened to any of their albums or songs that I know of so this should be a fun experiment. Tool formed the year before I was born and released their first EP the year I was born.

Now, just a few months shy of 30 years later, im going to start listening to their music in reverse chronological order. I'll post my thoughts.

I just finished Fear Inoculum. My first impression was "god I hope this intro is not a reflection of the whole album" it soon got awesome though and the intro actually made a good palette cleanser. The album rocked as a whole. There were a couple of spots that got too far away from the sound which I did not like. These seemed intentional, something to break up the 86 minute album. Personally, I would have enjoy it more at half the length. The bass was great with an orgasmic tone.

I can't compare it to early Tool but I can see what @definitely means by it lacking strong melody. It is a very rhythmic oriented album. I didn't mind that but again I don't have the nostalgia from early Tool.

I give it a 3 out of 4.

Tool albums must be rated in Fibonacci numbers, FYI.

Btw I listened to that Tool album while playing Assassin's Creed and that was badass. Now I have to go watch a recap of the story because I put it on mute

definitely a very rhythm-oriented band. which is fine, given that i don't think adam jones necessarily has the chops to hold up strong melodic lead work but is absolutely a creative rhythmic guitarist, and they have the best bass/drum pairing you could ask for for this style in justin and danny.

excited to see your thoughts on 10,000 days and lateralus. if you like FI, take the intensity from a 6 up to a 10.

also, the physical copies of FI didn't have the awful interludes. listening without those is much more pleasant.

I think 10,000 days is next in line. I might listen to a different band tonight and 10,000 days tomorrow to keep from burning myself out. They're like 2 albums long each lol.

Thats weird that the physical copy is different. I think I would have enjoyed it more without the interlude things.

It can just give me a list of all the stuff it has and I'll pick what I want. Don't need my TV suggesting me stuff.

Wouldn't work anyway. We leave TVs & radios playing for the animals while we're gone to keep them company. Just because their "content" was playing for 12 hours doesn't mean I liked it or even saw it at all.
They've already sold your preferences to Shenzhen split pea concern , might as well help yourself .

If the wee mexicans can handle it, so can I
i liked fear inoculum the first few times through it. i really did.

but it got me in the mood for more tool, which made me go back through their catalogue more, and now after a solid week of having lateralus and 10,000 days on loop and occasionally going back to a song or two on fear inoculum in between....i do not like it anymore.

this is like a tool cover band that can't keep up the intensity of the original so they just chug away mindlessly :(
This makes me sad , after all the time Tool fans had to wait .

Was going to say possibly melodicism is dying out but there's only so many combination's of the 6 popular notes available .
