Advice The Home Improvement/Automation Thread

It's more an issue of charging them. I don't want to have to do it, nor do I want a wire hanging down to an outlet.
ah, i prewired all that. I have both ethernet and lowvoltage going to each tablet location, and then use a POE 48v > usb converter. At some point ill get the lv distribution panel wired up and get rid of the converter.

Code requires an enclosure for 120 . .
Ok, the USB thing might work, but still, why not just run some 120 up there from that outlet? More future uses, same hassle.
you know, i ran LV to like 30 points but after some realization just came to the conclusion that I should just drop outlets at those points instead. I did so and I dont regret it.

I still have the LV for things like window alarm sensors and stuff that doesnt plug into an outlet, but thats simpler.

You're fishing the cord the same way you would be for 12 ga.

However, you don't have the additional step of wiring an outlet and shutting off the breaker (hopefully not in that order). So, it's less work.

Jesus, you have any more minutia you want to argue, or can you just let it go?

Dude, you argue minutia all the time - why should I be the one to let it go? If you're proposing bringing the USB INTO the lower 120 enclosure you're violating code.
Short version - NO U! :p

you can do that with a double gang box with a separator in the middle and its ok.
Best answer yet - just run both.

I got no pony in this race - we all got useful thoughts for OUR next project of similar type. Bass players live in houses too.

I'll step off now.

I figured one would just make a hole above the box, plug a charger in, and fish the thing up the wall. Goes well with the "I don't give a fuck" aesthetic of an unfinished mud ring.

For me, it's LOE vs reward. While it would look super cool, I don't see the need to cut holes and run outlets for something that I might occasionally use. Especially considering that I can do just about all of it with my voice.

Am I missing some killer feature @Domon?

its just super nice to have a big central view.

I have all my camera feeds on it, the status of all the doors and windows, the varying thermostats and temps throughout the house, and the status of all the "safety" sensors (water, smoke, co, etc)

and its family friendly. we do use alexa 90% of the time, but when the kids are sleeping just tapping a button to shut off all the house lights or something is handy.

not a problem you'd have.

When this bass player builds his house ALL wiring and plumbing will be visible and accessable, to hell with running shit inside walls.
Tall piers too so you can at least sit up under there and work on stuff.
All plywood too, no sheetrock, can screw and mount whatever you want wherever you want.
