Ontopic Random Computer-Electronics Thread

I'm running all Mirage speakers from 15 years ago when they were higher end.

Not the shit they sell now.
I've watched this co for ages! I passed on a new pair of these in the early 80's. The guy selling them said they were great & had a lot of knowledge about them, but for me, I was worried about resale because they were a small canadian co with only a few yrs history and compared to the other brands I was looking at, they were unknowns.

Bought them at Tweeter years ago. Maybe '04 or something.

Fantastic sound. No way I'd sell them.

Tell me more about what Product you use to get such great frosted tips.
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Yay for Grado and their $65 CAD turnkey repair service - they'll fix anything out of warranty for a flat rate, no matter how bad it is, including my rebuilt headphone harness. I sent them this picture to make sure...

...and they said no problem, they're replace both earphones and the cable harness. For 65 bucks CAD, shipped, taxes in, to my door. They don't make the plain 125s anymore so I'm guessing they'll be replaced with 125e's.

I feel like I'm pulling a scam.

FUCK.

I switched internet providers today, from Bell to the local cable company. I wasn't home (could have stayed home but had meetings and shit) and the gf was busy doing dog shit and couldn't really watch what was going on, plus she doesn't really know much about how I've got the home network wired up anyway.

Previously, I had the fiber router in the basement. My NAS and ethernet switch sitting next to it, with wired etherent going to office/bedroom/living room. The living room run had to be run outdoors, it went out the basement wall, up the side of the house and into the living room to bring wired ethernet there.

Came home to... they cut the outside ethernet cable, ran the coax in through the hole in the wall where the ethernet cable was, put the cable modem beside the TV and said "here's your TV and wifi!" - so now none of my wired ethernet shit works, got a cable modem sitting randomly in the corner of the living room taking up space, and courtesy of the outdoor ethernet cable being cut, I can't even backfeed the rest of the house from upstairs.

Got a bitchy e-mail sent to their customer support line, we'll see what happens.

BTW, both of my 8TBs are in the server! Yay! Migrating the 3TB drives out now. Should be done by later today or tomorrow.

Sadly, I forgot to remove the old drives from the snapraid backup, so I'll have to do a full backup after this is over. FUCK.

Puppy chewed through my charger cord. How closely do the specs need to match? Amperage can be a little lower, yeah?

Voltage the same, connector and pinout (tip positive) the same, adapter current ideally equal or greater.

If the adapter puts out slightly less current (say 5A instead of 6A) it might be OK, it might overheat and cut out, it might instantly go into overcurrent trip and refuse to work, or possibly even fail. But it won't burn down your house or anything and shouldn't damage your laptop, provided its CE/ITE/whatever listing is legitimate.
