Advice The Home Improvement/Automation Thread

I plumbed the kitchen sink drain through the wall to the outside and into a capped piece of pipe with a bunch of holes in it in the flowerbed. It's now an automatic watering system.

uhh, having done that accidentally due to a busted out pipe, would not recommend.

That much water near your foundation is bad news. Youd be surprised how much water a kitchen sink uses. Good way to end up with infiltration into a basement or a pseudo sinkhole

Pier and beam here, no basement. And the flowerbed isn't right up next to the house wall. 8' of deck, then the flowers. But I'll keep an eye on it, thanks.

Just two of us here. Not cooking for and cleaning up after kids daily. I did just fit stuff together, no glue, and gonna see how it goes, make adjustments. With how hot it gets in the summers and guesstimating watering before, there'll probably be times I just turn the faucet on without actually using the sink. At least May-September.

Mostly just getting another use out of water that would've gone into the sewer. Still might have to augment it, just not as much.

Also a lot of this place gets gravely/rocky just a couple/few inches down. Lot of water just evaporates or drains away. Can soak hell out of everything and it's dry again in a couple days. Any soil that really hold water has to be built by you, it ain't here naturally.

8 feet away is probably ok. Pier and beam here too. Mine was dumping like 2 feet away

I can't believe in 2019 we're still wrapping a little white wire and a little red wire around a screw head to install a doorbell button. Theres no circuit shutoff on the circuit breaker so I made a few phone calls and found out it's low voltage.
Screwing down the switch de-activated it so I had to experiment and eventually had a working doorbell.

This was all my wife's fault. I may have broken the button on purpose seeing as how much I like people and non bass noises and all.

Should have ditched the doorbell and gotten this. Instant home improvement.
