Ontopic Random (Not So) New Music Thread

I think credit has to go to Bloodhammer at BT247 for posting it, "the hooks just keep on coming". Have you learned the bass on that because holy fuck.

That's my favorite album, holistically, of theirs by far, and they're my go-to "favorite band", so.

never thought I'd care about hooks in prog rock until cedric's vocal melodies got stuck in my head for weeks on end. also why I think mars volta was a better incarnation of those two than at the drive-in.

frances still hasn't completely clicked though. cassandra gemini is....a mess to me*.

*edit: the first 7 or so minutes of that are actually one of my favourite stretches of music ever put out by them. the "no there's no light in the darkness of your furthest reaches" melody might be one of their best. but then it trails off into just minutes and minutes of noodling.

You said it was gay - which I took as a dislike or "why did they make this shit" commentary. Obviously anyone could plead "don't steal my man from me" - in the original it was a woman.
More sad is a personal take, just like gay. Country music of that sort has strong roots to Scottish and Irish songs about death and the other bad shit of life. And often they were quite spirited in tempo - basically to tell life and death to fuck off. Like a good wake.
I'm not on about anything - maybe I should have said "you don't appear to appreciate or understand the genre, as it stood at the time."
*I was the one who posted the White Stripes version - I wouldn't have posted it if I didn't like it.
"gay" isn't a bad word these days, grandpa.

... and I might as well take the opportunity to post some good country.

Blue Rodeo kicks ass:

my grandma (from toronto) has a friend who used to talk about how she "wishes her son would get a real job" instead of "just being a drummer"

.....for blue rodeo.

I don't remember which drummer it was though. I just remember his mom having no idea they were a big deal.

Big deals don't always make money. The music business ain't what it used to be.
Even when it was.

Oh I dunno, a dude singing about someone stealing their male lover might be gay.
You are not making any sense fella. You stated Dolly Parton's version was gay. I posted the White Stripes version which according to you would be gay.
Are you saying BOTH are gay? Dolly wanted the other woman to go take a leap - how is that gay?

let's settle this once and for all.

i'm gay
It doesn't mean what it used to.
I remember I wanted to send you a recording dongle when we were on BT247 - you thought your dad would freak out if he found out an older man was sending you presents. Damn, and here we could have been suck and fuck buddies 4eva.:p

LMFAO wow I totally forgot about that. classic. 3 years removed and living on my own now, but that does sound about right when I was back at home. my parents still haven't quite figured out this internet friend thing.

I called the slowed down version of Dolly Parton's song "sad gay cowboy track"

Because it sounds like a dude, sad and upset, singing about some woman taking his man.

Go get a beer, sit in a comfortable chair, put the (slowed down) song on, and ponder it for a while. Maybe you'll figure it out.

I'll admit dolly presents a little odd. Southern tomboy.
But I don't need to sit down.
There seem to be some logical disconnect here. Your op post showed the dolly version to me. I posted the white stripes. I totally get both versions. Why are you persevrrating on this idea that I don't get both versions?
