I thought the kid was still in grade school. It's fairly easy to explain 'dads friend.' The larger issue is how many of dad's friends will the kid get introduced to? Is she the [next] one? eventual step mom? Or, is she just, next in a line of nexts. I like to think there's some degree of permanence before introducing them to the kid(s). But those are my general *parenting* thoughts. My *divorce antics* thoughts are: if it's going to piss of the ex, especially during the divorce proceedings, tread very carefully.

@Jimmycrackcorn - how old is your little man? I think we need a rule of thumb like with dating age: wait 3 months based on 5 yrs. old. Add 3 weeks for each year below 5. Add 3 weeks for each year OVER 5 until they are 18.
