Thread Winter Olympics - 2018

So competitive surfing is an exhibition...
Interesting!

They dropped it from the games and it's coming back in 2020. That's something I don't like about the Summer Games. They drop legit stuff like baseball, softball, wrestling, lacrosse, etc. And there's stuff that should be in there like cricket and rugby (they only have 7s). But they drop the real stuff to make room for bs crap like synchronized circle jerking and badminton.

I've heard talks about them assigning two Olympics to a city. That seems to make much more sense, investment-wise.

That would be extremely difficult since most of the cities that host a Summer game don't have the weather for a Winter game and visa versa.

edit.

Nevermind on that previous comment after I thought about it you most likely meant city X gets 2 games in a row. Which if they do that they might as well just do a perm location which I think they should do anyone. I think the up keep on the venues for 4 plus years would be a huge investment for some.

Also why aren't we talking about the Lloyd Chrismas gloves the US worn for the opening ceremony? If they weren't $1000 and out of stock I would so buy a pair.

Watching an interview with Red Gerard who’s the CO kid who won the first US gold this year. He’s 17 and was saying he really didn’t know what the Olympics was or what it was about. He’s only watched the Dew Tour and XGames. Now granted this is from a snowboarder but does bring an interesting topic on if youth don’t consume TV will they even have an appreciation for things like this.

Id make a joke here but hell if I want to disrupt such a fatally important discussion

If you guys ever find yourself in Halifax, we're going curling. It's fun as hell.

It's also an excuse to drink. Having a couple drinks actually helps, it warms you up and make it hurt less when you fall on your ass.

Let's be clear, most of life is an event that takes place during an excuse to alter your mind in one way or another.

Ok let's get serious for a second. Any thread not labeled "on topic" is not sacrosanct. I read the rule, Im living by the rule, I've asked my friends to do the same.

Granted this should have been an on topic thread but it doesn't appear to be so.

NO.

lighthearted diversions on name spelling is fine. IT'S FUCKING WELCOMED.

This shit is fine too:

Some sports just go hand and hand with drinking, like darts. Curling is one of those games, every curling club has a bar.

Maintenance costs are a lot cheaper than building costs. And you basically get double the 'revenue' for 'half' the work. I hate the idea of a permanent site.

Bowling would be too.
...
Except bowling is a passtime.
I think bowling counts as both. If you bowl competitively, it's definitely a sport.

But you can completely suck at it and still have fun doing it, which makes it a good pasttime.

Bocce should be added to the summer games.

The hardest part about the game is not spilling your drink. It's wonderful.
That's hardcore italian. I used to get off the bus at an intersection in Brighton, Ma where the old retired italian men would play Bocce all day long from dawn to dusk.
Lost way of life :(
