A few of us (me, @Mr. Asa and @Mustard Dispenser as far as I know) have 3D printers, @Jehannum's getting a 3D printed dildo made for his car, and I'm kinda surprised @fly hasn't bought a printer as some kind of business investment.

Might as well make a thread to keep it all organized. If y'all print something, post it here. If you're doing shit to your printer, post it here. If you've got questions about printing or modelling stuff or whatever, post it here.

I'm in the process of turning my crappy "Anet A8" printer into something that prints well and won't burn my house down. Doing a bunch of electrical fixes, and building a new frame out of Misumi HFS5 aluminum extrusions to replace the crappy laser cut acrylic frame the printer originally came with. I'll be making some posts about that in the next few days.

It hits the bed, and pushes down on it, then drags the nozzle around, eventually causing a clog
Its like zero is set at -.010 or something.
Not sure if its software or hardware related
Its a robo3d r1+ , if that matters

I have a friend that has an issue with his printer. It ramps up temps so high and so quickly that if you leave the filament in it does actually catch fire.

Was fun the second and third times, then you just get to the point where you expect them to get their shit together.

List of issues fixed so far on my printer:

- acrylic frame warps under tension of belts (fixed w/printed braces)
- no good means of adjusting belt tension (fixed w/printed tensioners)
- crappy 240 chinawatt power supply that buzzes and gets hot (fixed, replaced with a good 350W Mean Well supply)
- crappy connectors on the motherboard that burn up (fixed, replaced with good TE connectors)
- 10A running through 10A rated pins on the heat bed connector without any strain relief (fixed, wiring doubled up)
- 16AWG carrying 15+ amps from power supply to motherboard (fixed, now 12AWG)
- thermal runaway protection disabled in firmware (fixed w/new firmware)
- grub screw holding heater cartridge into heat block walks loose and eventually strips out, heater gets loose and burns up. (fixed w/E3Dv6 clamp style heat block)
- heat bed was warped (fixed w/fly cutter on the bridgeport at work, learned milling 3mm thick aluminum sheet is actually kinda dangerous)

Continuing issues:
- really need to do some good cable management, will be done with new frame.
- acrylic frame is a piece of shit. Y and Z guide rods are loose in the frame, no horizontal bracing of the Z axis.
- need to come up with some sort of filament guide for the stock extruder so I can print flex materials.

Holy shit, man. How much did you pay for that?

I did cable management and somehow, despite labeling everything, its not reacting as it should. Z-probing the bed has one axis slam into the end stop and the others just sorta hang out.
Move everything independently and its fine. Pretty much any programmed move fucks it up

$160 USD, with a free 0.5kg roll of filament and free shipping to Canada. I knew full well it was a piece of crap when I bought it, but everything's fixable. I bought it to learn about 3D printing more than anything else.

And yes, I'm dumb, but I got it done. For attempt #2 I hot glued the bed to a chunk of delrin, machined it, then baked it to soften the glue to get it apart. Worked.

Perfect example of your blatant cuntery. I asked a perfectly polite, honest question.

Its a legit answer to an ill thought out question.

You don't need more than one pair of shoes. You don't need to eat steak and nice meals. You don't need to go see a movie or watch TV You don't need anything in this world. This, like everything else is something to play with.

Just shut the fuck up. It's an asshole answer.

Because it's fun, and occasionally useful.
But, what do you make with them, personally?

I used to work on CNC machines, which is obviously subtractive vs a 3D Printer. But, I couldn't imagine having one on the regular.
