Halp Android devices

I would feel terribly uncomfortable living in a house in which there's an always on microphone connected to a device with internet access.
im not remotely that interesting.

Besides.... your phone, which you carry around with you ALL the time, not just in your house, already has that.

I don't enable any of those features on my phone, I can "ok google" all day long and it won't care

and it's fine on the phone because when I'm in public I already watch what I say. it's only when I'm alone at home that I start talking to myself out loud and certainly wouldn't anything picked up

nothing to do with being interesting or even worried that anyone might be listening, I just don't like the idea of audio monitoring in general

it's pure paranoia, I'm not saying my concerns are justified but I would still feel very weird about it

Bet you thought it was awesome when you saw Maria Conchita Alonso ordering her house to do shit when she got home in 'The Running Man' though.

Come on man, embrace your inner 80s child and let go your adult fears.

that's the thing, I do think voice controlled stuff is awesome. I want my devices to answer me like majel roddenberry would

but I have an unexplained aversion to talking to my devices, like in those times I don't want to hear the sound of my own voice

if someone is really listening to you.... you think the settings you set make any difference?

Okay, so, if you had a smart home, who's voice do you want it to speak to you with?

Honestly, I'd want my house to sound like Sophia Verguerra in all her ultimate latinness.

Second choice - Morgan Fucking Freeman.

Again, I'm not concerned about someone specifically targeting me with an exploit that gives them access to my mic or if I'm being PRISM'd for some stupid reason. Within the framework of the software the settings do mean that the application isn't registering and recording anything I say. If I'm being targeted then I change my habits and don't rely on the technology to protect me. This is just ambient paranoia.

I still say majel roddenberry because I want it to sound like a starfleet computer

but since she's no longer around to provide new audio I'm not entirely sure. the only appeal to me about having a voice controlled home would be that specific voice, without that I don't think I'd want it. I'd much rather pick up a device off the counter and control everything that way

although if a voice controlled home was my only option I would certainly change the lighting controls to work thusly

Wesley Snipes used to be so awesome.

and then he stopped being awesome.

He probably never should have left the 90s.

And just like the above, if I had the ability to customize my voice controls, I'd probably spend weeks going through every control and finding unique but completely stupid vocal queues for them all.

If Morgan Freeman just has to be the second choice, then I want the first one to be the narrator from the Frontline documentaries.

Should he not be available, then James Earl Jones.

No. I'm not an Apple person, so I've no idea. It's just information that's been relayed to me by people that are. It probably makes a difference that these are people actually still using them as a daily driver. Maybe it's BS, but I've heard it a lot.
Its not bullshit. Older phones dont handle newer OSs well. I've seen it first hand. Happens on android too. However there are alternatives on android Luke custom ROMs that older phones work much better with.

I know you know all this. I'm just putting it out there for others.

happened moreso on android up to 5.0. Either it just straight out didnt work, wasnt available (most likely), or performed poorly. they rewrote the core layer in 6 for increased performance on older devices. Ive found that my devices actually run BETTER on newer versions after kitkat.

then theres added bonus, like you said, of things like slimrom, etc
