depends on the regional variations. the one I was going for was more of a sipping beverage and not a shooter:
3 cups water (I will be using filtered)
2/3 cup light brown sugar -- I will be more authentic and use piloncillo
2/3 cup dark brown sugar -- Same, I will use piloncillo. so total I will use 1-1/3 cup
Juice of 1 lime -- I was going to slice a lime and peel the "shell" into shavings
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon whole cloves
4-6 cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup orange juice -- I was going to slice an orange and peel the "shell" into shavings
4 ozs (or more) of aguardiente
The original recipe I used has the following:
Bring the water, sugar, lime juice, salt, cinnamon sticks, and cloves to a boil. Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in orange juice and aguardiente. Reheat without boiling, strain and serve hot.
I was going to wack all of the parts except the aguardiente into a crock pot on low for at least 15 minutes, maybe up to half hour. Let the flavors mingle. Put the aguardiente in at the last minute, just to get it to temp before serving.
