He's been telling me "don't take pride in you work" forever and now I feel like I'm in the movie Office Space.

Lately it seems like I can't get anything done and am way unproductive at work. Near the end of the day my boss called me in to her office. I go in fearing I've fucked something up but she starts talking about a possible promotion.

It's for a lead position so I would have to manage people... Which I don't think I can handle or have any desire for. Anyways I'm supposed to give my answer Friday. Yay....

I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?

what do you do

my title is "career counselor" but i don't really do any counseling. i basically help people who need assistance with their training by providing a grant to cover their tuition. its a workforce program so the ultimate goal is to get them employed and off government assistance. basically case management/social work.

Huh, never would have guessed that in a million years. Thought for sure you did something IT related.

i took the first job i got and got comfortable.... i do have a bachelor's in computer science, but i completely lack ambition

So what makes you think you can't lead people? Best thing to do is just fake it.

i like to minimize my responsibilities and don't want to have to deal with people more than i have to.

if you werent so incredibly vague about what it is you do, we might be able to be more helpful.

For now, we will assume you work in furry anime hentai animation production.

HOLY FUCK

Okay, this is fucking hilarious. The Office Space reference relates so well.

So most likely there is a pay increase and less duties (make sure there aren't longer hours and if you're exempt/nonexempt first). I'd say take it, if you don't like it fuck up some and they'll demote you back to where you were because you excel there already. They wouldn't want to lose you as an employee.

The boss had hinted to it long long ago, but at that time the biggest thing that scared me away were the hours. I'd be going from hourly to salary and am not sure if its worth the extra money. I didn't ask for numbers but i'd imagine it'd be like 11-13% increase. I'm also not too fond of being under greater scrutiny by the higher ups in regards to expectations. Also had the fear that what if there wasn't a chance for demotion...

You would think one of the prerequisites for being a career counselor would be having had a career. :fly:

i know, right?
