Syllables, not sentences (unless there are different types)
Typically arranged:

I wasn't trying to be technical, but hey, if you want to be that way....

Traditional haiku consist of 17 on (also known as morae), in three phrases of 5, 7 and 5 on respectively.[3] Any one of the three phrases may end with the kireji.[4] Although haiku are often stated to have 17 syllables,[5] this is inaccurate as syllables and on are not the same.
The term "On" (rarely "Onji") refers to counting phonetic sounds in Japanese poetry. In the Japanese language, the word "on" (音) means "sound".
Mora (plural morae or moras; often symbolized μ) is a unit in phonology that determines syllable weight, which in some languages determines stress or timing.

It makes more sense in Japanese.

This right here. Which is why there are what are called "modern versions" of haiku, which is just another term for english speaking people not understanding the concept of Japanese haiku, so they tweak it to make more sense. :fly:

Keep in mind that if Asa makes any kind of intelligible point on a topic he likely just read it on Wikipedia.

Which is why I never referred to Wiki when I replied to Liam. Haiku in the traditional sense is very complicated to people who don't speak Japanese because that is what it's originally based on.
Pretty sure Liam doesn't give two shits about it's full form & reasons. :fly:
BUT, here are Asa & ZRH to incorrectly "correct" where they see fit.

The hell? 3 people corrected you, all of them technically incorrect, but more correct than your explanation. What bothered you specifically about my version?

You "corrected" me with an incorrect correction.
Wait, who are these three people?
Read. Understand.

Well technically it isn't 17 syllables for a haiku. It is word sounds that they count. So if you saw Osaka, it is actually written out in a way that is O-o-sa-ka. So while you think it is 3 syllables, it's actually 4 sounds for the definition of haiku. Nippon is 2 syllables but again it's 4 on because it actually Ni-p-po-n. So there :p

(stupid things you remember from taking Japanese in HS for a few years)

Will be more than I am now. This is going to get a lot of use.

Felt it up in the store today. Feels well made. The vents are really selling it for me though. It's quite convincing as a good cooling system. Makes sense. Asus are making a good name for themselves lately. Flagship model. Easy choice.

I have to agree with this. I'm loving my Asus laptop and also buy their tablets.

Asus has gone from back-in-the-day shady manufacturer (along with Acer, emachines, etc) to one of the most solid brands around.
