that's the one thing that pisses me off about Steam, although I'm sure it's more on the publishers than the distributors, but the mere fact that all media associated with a game is now electronic, some price adjustments should have occurred as a result.

I vote with my money. When the price goes down to $20, I buy the game. I will never pay $60 for a fucking e-copy.

Consoles would be great if they came with some kind of software programs and downloading services, and included things like monitor screens and input devices with keys on them, for typing and such. Maybe a smaller, single-handed input device off to one side that rolled around and facilitated far more accurate, wireless pin-pointing of system and game features.

I'd like to point out that technically the 360 and PS3 both do all of these things.

Fuck you, hiker!

So, Steam has announced SteamOS..

I have to wonder, with all this weight Gabe Newell is throwing (no pun intended) behind his push for linux, does Steam have enough command to push developers into more linux titles, or is be backing the wrong horse and eventually will loose this fight?

or will it come down to another fracture of gaming environment OS?

I think that's a waste of dev dollar. But I guess we'll see soon enough...

I don't see a losing situation for developers. The cost of porting games is no where near the cost of the development. They will just make a yet another version of their game for the Linux platforms. If Linux platforms such as this SteamOS fail to gain traction, they will not hurt significantly at all. Small investment, big payoff for developers. It's the people creating these Linux platforms that are taking the risk here. Valve has a lot to loose here.

If they do this right, and I have a feeling they are with the amount of work Valve is doing with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel on developing graphic drivers for Linux, that they will do something quiet big with this.
