This is an excellent documentary on assisted suicide. I don't think there are many here against it, but this shows both sides and what it is like to go through with assisted suicide. This documentary actually shows a man going through with it and passing away while his wife rubs his hand. It's quite beautiful and sad at the same time.

They explain it in the video that "giving the needle" to someone can me misconstrued as murder, but giving a glass of poison to someone to drink on their own accord puts the responsibility all on the patient and not the doctor.

Misconstrued by someone who's got jack all to do with it. Yet another case of the authorities sticking their nose in where it doesn't belong.

Ignorance is broader than just saying god. There are godless people out there who are against it as well.

Yeah who have come to their belief through the influence of the religious.

Though I'd love to have someone argue why euthanasia should stay illegal. Just to see what on earth their points could be.

Im sure youd just get the standard "suicide is a sin!" bible thumping nonsense.
Beyond that, there is no real good reason for it to be illegal.
 
I gave this a lot of thought when my mom was sick. I think it comes down to how much value is placed on the human life. We have (sometimes) an over inflated ego of how important humans are to this world. We're very egocentric in that way. We're fine with putting down pets because we want to be "kind" but the reality is people have a hard time taking a human life. There is the fear of "what if we can save them" mentality that we don't go through near as much with pets.

I'm not even sure this is a religious thing or not - probably too hard to blame as such since not all religions feel the same about things (some believe in killing guilty and others do not).

Pretty much. I just don't see how one person should have the right to tell another person that they can not take their own life.
