View Full Version : Workout Check-in
Alright, so after seeing the butt contest thread, I really need to work on my butt and get it nice and toned, I can't be lazy anymore. I've got a bike, and think I might pull it out and go on quick bike rides at night after the kids are in bed. As far as aerobics go, I just do not like them and so will never be able to really commit to them for any extended period of time (meaning more then 3 days). So anyways, use this thread to post what exercising you did for the day in it, that way, we can all encourage each other!
Now that the thread is created, I won't actually be posting any exercising in it till Monday, but I'll have to make sure and exercise Monday so my thread won't fail.
i rode 12 miles today, plan on doing another 12 tomorrow if the weather holds. (maybe more)
been riding my mountain bike on paved trails since it's been raining like... every other day here...

For butt exercises, lunges seem to work the best for me. Oh and also the table position...

I will be deadlifting 405 for reps tomorrow. Followed by 4 sets of weighted pullups and then 3 sets of bent over dumbell rows. (yes tomorrow's back day)

No, that's daily routine. For it to be exercise it has to be extreme screaming infant carrying, you gotta run from place to place and set up obstacles and stuff.

So what we have to do then. (We have to dodge cats trying to get in our way.)

Not my daily routine. I have no children. Cat dodging did play a role though. 4 hours of sleep helped too. The infant is also suffering from acid reflux so it was constantly trying to arch its back and consequently pushing away from me, making the carrying more difficult. I'm no longer sure I want any children. I'm exhausted.

Don't worry, it really isn't as bad when it's your own kids. You figure them out, they figure you out, and you can handle things much better.

 I've actually never had to deal with excessive screaming for long periods of time. Haylee used to scream crazy fits, but we'd just turn on the shower and let her listen to the water run, and she'd usually go to sleep within 20-30 minutes.

Unfortunately for me, this is the first time my neice has ever behaved this way and it happened to be the weekend I volunteered to babysit. I think she's just feeling really awful. Usually she's a lot of fun. She's an amazing kid. Now that I'm rested I feel much better about the situation.

babies have their moments. and some more than others. and some for longer spells than others. but as a baby's mother, you feel absolutely horrible when your baby is in pain and crying for hours and there's nothing NOTHING you can do except hold them and sing useless lullabyes and rub their backs. it's the worst feeling in the world. :( i would've gladly died several times in the past five years to take away the pain my babies have been in.

I've been feeling more like a cheese cake lately. I have enough muscle mass that people in my ghetto neighborhood just give me a nod rather than trying to screw with me but I need to drop some fat. More muscle wouldn't hurt either.
Yea, I didn't work out, so I fail. I decided I'd be better off to do bike rides first thing in the morning as opposed to at night after the sun goes down, but I've been feeling ill since last night, so I didn't go today either. I will do a bike ride someday this week though.

Get overheated April?
I risk that often. I hate people that go to the gym and are there for 5 hours sitting on the equipment in people's way. I use very short rest periods between sets so I sometimes almost push too hard. When I hit the gym I'm there to push myself and I don't want to talk or sit around and rarely notice anyone else is even there sometimes. I just focus on the muscles I'm working out.

My favorite are the people who sweat all over the equipment and neglect to wipe off the puddle they left on the seat.
Just got a bit of a tummy ache. Zac is sick with something so maybe I have it some. Plus it has been three days since we have worked out, felt like my body was going to fall apart after getting off our routine.

On the topic of throwing up (which is an impressive bit of coincidence in the workout thread) we kept a chunder list in college. I got sick from drinking something like 26 times in one year. Puking doesn't bother me anymore. Fortunately for my esophagus I don't do it that frequently anymore.
I puke a lot too. In fact, I just did it three times while Ape and I were working out. I've been sick tho...
I'm so glad I don't. I've puked maybe 6 times in the past 4-5 years.
Edit: Although since Haylee pukes about everytime she gets sick and I have to clean it up, I almost think I'd rather be the one puking.

Hey, I exercised before eating the fatty fast food. :fly:
Really, the only reason it was to Burger King was cause they have an indoor playground for the kids to use since it's too hot to really go outside much.
We are all finally feeling better so I fully intend to start riding my bike every morning next week. I pulled it out so it's easily accessible and need to squirt the cobwebs off of it tomorrow, then it will be ready to go.

that shouldn't be hard. getting better at biking is mostly about toughening up your ass initially. then you can put all your weight on it and spin your legs which makes the miles fly by.
I went for a ride last night with my neighbor. She's new to the biking thing so we just cruised for a couple hours taking it real slow. Hoping to get her up to speed in a couple weeks.

$300ish i'd say. best bet is to find a local bike shop and see what they have. buy from a place that has service so you can get it tuned up after you've been riding it a few weeks or a month. the cables always stretch on new bikes.
Well, I spent 80 I think on mine, but if I stay consistent and actually ride it everyday I'll look at getting me a nice one next spring/summer.

Bleh, just did another 20 minutes of cardio on my exercise bike. I hate exercise.
I biked just under 3 miles today. I'm in the process of working out a route so I go at least 3 miles everyday for a couple weeks.
I was riding hard (yes, I know there are plenty of sexual puns there)though and it felt like longer then that and man I'm hurting right now. I'm am seriouly out of shape.
The one thing I don't like about biking is that it takes much longer to burn the same calories as something like running. If I have to do cardio, I want to be done ASAP.

river kayak or ocean kayak? i've only been in a river kayak once, but have done some ocean kayak trips. since you mentioned being squished i'm guessing you mean river. It's not actually that tight of a fit. Just remember to always keep your torso above the center of the kayak and practice stability control through hip motion. I was told to think "hula hips", keep your upper body stationary and rock your hips back and forth.
lots of fun, and it's really easy to bail out if you end up rolling (you don't need to learn the eskimo roll thing right away, or ever)

Man, I'm jealous. I would love to go kayaking.

biking is basically cardio, so good for the extra bit of weight and heart health. might not tone your butt and legs exactly as you want them, may have to look at weights if you need to build muscle. on the other hand when i was biking regularly i discovered muscles on my legs i didn't know existed.
just be sure to do the toe-touch stretch often enough that biking doesn't result in reducing your thigh flexibility (because your knee spends so much time bent)

Then picking it up again where I left off I started to remember how much the levelling pissed me off when I played it last year (I didn't care for being level 25 and still getting my ass handed to me constantly by Liches and the like) so I installed the FCOM mod suite which took me a bit to wade through.

So I had an EKG today, and the physician tells me: "The EKG is great, you have a very low heart rate - that usually indicates someone in a high state of fitness"
That probably explains my good SAC rate though. I think it's the elephant seal that can dive to some seriously insane depths, and does so by lowering it's heart rate to 2bpm or something like that.

my mountain bike ride sunday took a turn for the worse. I was riding from the pavement onto the trail through what looked like an overgrown drive, little did i know underneath the weeds was a ditch that my bike went straight into as i apparently flew off. landed with my right arm across my chest and just laid there for a bit.
i say apparently becuase a few seconds of my life are missing - i was riding... then i was laying face first on the ground unwilling to move.
finished the ride (about 10 miles), but the next morning my right shoulder wouldn't move at all and was painfull as hell. here we are two days later and i have motion in it back, it's just incredibly soar and weak.

I've been doing the South Beach diet. The doc said I need to lose about 100 pounds. I had McDonald's for breakfast.
So, he wants you down to about 12 pounds total? That's smaller then all of my kids.
So, those that have Wii Fit, are you still using it? Is it working? Do you enjoy it? Was it worth the 90 bucks?
I really do want to get in shape, but hate exercising and can only do things for a couple weeks before I'm bored and can't talk myself into it.
The bike riding was going well, but I just can't convince myself to get up that early and go out when I could lay back down in bed and get an extra 30 min of sleep. I've thought about looking into an exercise bike (we have one, but it's extremely old and doesn't have the ability to change the amount of energy and force it takes to ride and such), but then I have to decide where I have to keep it in the new house. I do like the idea of being able to ride it and watch a movie or something though. Maybe that's the direction I should take instead of Wii fit. Does Wii fit just feel like regular exercising or are the games fun enough to keep playing while still giving you a workout?

Worked back and biceps and biked 8 miles.
I need to start running but I get horrible shin splints. I need to buy some running shoes.

Ya, good shoes generally fix that...

You can never be skinny enough! Anorexia for the win!
Ok, but in all reality, I don't need to lose size, just tone and get in shape. I may be skinny, but I'm not in shape at all.
Edit: In all reality, I wouldn't mind putting a few pounds on since the pants I just bought are still a tiny bit too loose, and I'm not going to be able to find smaller pants easily.
*cough* Weight lift *cough*
Women can't get huge without steroids so don't think that will happen.

Kid weight is worse because they are squirmy.
So far today I've been replacing rbc14 battery packs in UPS most of the morning. They are 4 packs of batteries car battery sized. Not light.

That counts when they weigh over 100 pounds.

Sometimes I carry my 30 pounder at the same time, so that's 67 pounds, that's got to be close enough.

Well out of the two of us, I'm not the one complaining about getting toned. So you can just not do it if you don't want and complain all the time.......or you could try picking up real weights.

Sounds good to me. :P
I know the problem is I just need to do it, I just don't really enjoy it at all.

So lift heavy. Less reps, less sets, less time. Most of my lifting routines last no more than half hour.

Hoy thread bump!
I'm now a member again of the 300 bench club. Next goal is 315.

Congrats. I need to get my benching back up but I've been having lots of pains and aches in one of my shoulders so I'm taking some time off to heal. Better safe than sorry.
Does your gym do anything to recognize the 300 club?

I did 15 minutes on the elliptical yesterday, which I am very proud of because I always feel like I'm going to be vaulted off the thing. But I think it was more of a workout than 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Yeah those take coordination... Did you strap yourself in there, klutz?

I can't do most elliptical machines, they hurt my knees.
Which, oddly, running does not.

I would feel so much better with straps. I only fell off once today. 25 minutes!!!! woot.

Nah, I work out at a gym where I work. I'm really the only serious lifter there.
I agree with the safe than sorry approach.
The 300 club for me is just an indication that I'm getting back in shape. 315 is the next goal followed by 365. After that, I'll decide if I want to go 405 or not.

I showed this to Zac and wasn't going to post it, but what the hell...
My trainer friend did a before and after of me. The workouts we do are insane. Given the time I've had to take off for various things this is about 10 weeks of work. I am still going 5-6 days per week.
