Tim Russert, NBC journalist and political heavyweight host of "Meet the Press," has died after collapsing at NBC's Washington news bureau, a source said. He was 58 years old.
Russert, who rose from the inside world of politics where he was former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo's press secretary and one-time chief of staff to the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, was able to successfully cross over to political journalism and rise to become one of its leading lights.
In his role as host of the seminal Sunday morning political program "Meet the Press" - which he took over in 1991 - he became renowned for his hard-nosed interviews where he frequently cornered some of Washington's cagiest political figures with tough questions.

Actions such as these do not make a person wiser, you know.

That's sad. I watched a news story on NBS Nightly News where Tim and his father did a segment on upbringing and stuff. Seemed like nice people.

For a second I thought this thread was about Kurt Russell (star of Big Trouble in Little China, Soldier, and 3,000 Miles to Graceland), but then I realized that the last name wasn't quite right, and the first name was totally wrong.
Who was this guy? Is he awesome like Kurt Russell? You know Kurt, he's the star of Big Trouble in Little China.

Him and Big Russ... :(
Tim Russert was a good reporter/political analyst. He was down to earth; his interviews clear, concise and fact checked; and most of all he was likable. I can't think of one other TV journalist/talking head that I want to listen to anymore. Meet the Press will never be same.
why do we not have a celebrity death pool?

why do we not have a celebrity death pool?
because the only remotely famous person her is DJ Mingleblowmar. And I don't think he'd like being the only person on the UF death pool list.

I don't think he'd care... we'd just have to make a rule that if you kill the celebrity you choose, you're automatically disqaulified from winning.

So they claim some guy invited the kid to a leather bar or something...?
"The family started protesting homosexuality in the late 1980s after Shirley Phelps-Roper’s then-toddler son was allegedly propositioned by a homosexual in a Topeka park, according to Phelps-Roper."
I'm pretty sure God hates people who hate fags.

The really ironic part is that Phelps used to be a (good) civil rights attorney.

I was quite amazed to see on tv that Tim's widow and his son to be at the public wake the entire time, meeting complete strangers and friends of Tim alike, and thanking them for coming and listening to condolences and what not. Being completely available in other words. They could have just showed up, meet family friends, and then left.
