I saw this earlier and thought it would interest you guys. There is a website named thevision2020 ( http://locator.thevision2020.com/ ) that shows you the sexual offenders in your area on a Microsoft Virtual map. So satellite views of how close you live to the sickos.
It turns out that one of the people in my neighborhood that I've seen before is a child molester and a few houses down is a statutory rapist. I guess it's a good thing that I was already planning to move.
I've got 5 within a 5 mile radius .. but they are all on the other side of the interstate. WHEW
Everyone is on the other side of the freeway from me, several miles.

The statutory rapist, even if 70, could have done it 50 years ago. They need to rewrite the way they deal with those guys. My, ahem, "friend" hooked up with a 17 year old girl when he was 20 or so.

Fortunately I live within 2 daycare centers (well just a couple of Moms who decided to run a daycare out of their house) and in the great state of Maine, anyone convicted of a sexual offense cannot live within 2 miles of a daycare center. The law still applies if the daycare center shuts down (which one did up the road from me).
However, the last time I checked there were 300 some odd registered sex offenders living within 15 mi radius of my house. Way to go.....
I also agree that the law needs to be changed so that someone who has consensual sex with a minor (girl = 16 and guy=20+). To me those aren't true sexual offenders. What should happen is to classify the danger that this sexual offender poses, in some type of class or number, based upon psychiatric evaluations, previous convictions and nature of those crimes, and how many times they've missed out on scheduled appointments/surprise inspections by their parole officer.
edit: Another gripe I have with these states who list sexual offenders on a web site (such as Maine) is that often times the crime is not listed or very vague. For instance, check out this winner (http://sor.informe.org/cgi-bin/sor/step3.pl?id=4724&search=3&zip=04963&area=15&limiter=). 6 time winner too. I'd say he's probably a high risk. But I have no way to know as the law is extremely vague. Says between age 3 and 14.
edit2: The site in the OP post only lists the locations of less than 10 people, yet my state's website lists over 100. So I'll go with my state's web site as it is more frequently updated.

It's kinda hard to know what to do with these people.
I think they should have housing communities just for them .. and make sure they are a long way away from schools and daycare centers.
They may have served their time .. but their crime lives on everyday that the person/child they assalted lives on. They don't get parol from that.

Well you have to remember that not all of them have actually done anything wrong. It doesn't take much to get someone on a sex offender's registry. In some states any crime against a child - including a "crime" such as spanking your kid in public for being a demon at the store - can be classified as a "sexual" crime. Some groups are trying to make smoking in the same house as a child an "assault" on a child and would classify it as such.
One can be registered as a sex offender when a coworker claims that sexual harassment has taken place. No wrongdoing need be proven because in some states the mere accusation is all that is required to add one to the list. Pretty unconstitutional but few people are willing to stand up for the rights of these people so the cases never get high enough to be ruled as such.
Some of them were convicted of statutory rape...which isn't even rape by any definition of the word. Consensual sex between two minors or a minor and an adult is still consensual sex. Parents, on the other hand, freak out when their little 14 year old princess turns out to be a slut so they punish her boyfriend. The high school senior is still a trash heap but he shouldn't be convicted of something that isn't an actual crime.
On the other hand if the sex offender laws were actually reasonable I would agree with you. Then again I don't believe many of the people released from prison should be out on parole. I see no reason why an attempted murderer, rapist, or even mugger should ever be allowed to walk the streets again. Violent crimes should be a one-strike deal. Again, that's assuming that the laws themselves could be fixed to get rid of stupid crap that shouldn't be crimes.

Well .. I didn't say stick them in concentration camps .. I said provide them housing where you know where they are.
You know .. people are fully aware that they can get arrested for "statutory rape" on a 16 yr old when they are 18 yrs old .. yet they still do it .. they push the envelope and "hope" no one says anything.
There are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree levels of sexual predation. 1st levels are your statutory rapists that had sex with an 16 yr old when they were 18 .. 2nd degree are your general rapists .. 3rd degree are sexual sadists.
2nd and 3rd degree level criminals are the ones people are most concerned with .. they are the ones who have DNA matching records that prove they assaulted someone. Those are the people that need to be kept away froms schools and daycare centers.
I didn't say put them there and never let them leave either. I didn't say baracade them in their homes, or do house searches once a month.
But they chose to commit a crime. The person who was assaulted didn't choose for it to happen, they don't get "time off for good behaivor". They just get to deal with it forever and ever. I don't think 5 years is enough and just send them back out ontot he streets. They should feel the effects of their deeds for just as long as the person they chose to assault.

Then if they're still a danger to society do not let them out of prison. Bottom line: once someone has been released from incarceration one is assumed to have repaid the debt to society and should regain all of his rights. Not some.
It's a lot easier and better for all to just not let them out of jail.
edit: and my point is mainly that the sexual predator laws need to be changed to exclude a wide variety of things :p

We'd run out of jails if we did that. And the Judicial system knows it.

No we wouldn't.
1. Most people in prison that get out come right back. Recidivism. They're going to be put back in there anyways, why the hell let them out in the first place?
2. Between a third and half of all prisoners in the United States are in there for non-violent drug offenses.
3. I never said I felt that the debt was repaid after a certain number of years. :tard: I'm saying if we let them out of prison we should consider the debt repaid. If the debt has not been repaid DO NOT LET THEM OUT.
edit: and don't pretend that everyone actually "suffers" for the rest of their lives when they've been victims. :p some people get past it pretty quickly, those that crutch on it for thirty years have much deeper problems with themselves that need to be worked out

Just because people dont' let YOU know that it still bothers them .. when they lay down to go to sleep at night .. they always think about it. Things that normally wouldn't bother them .. bother them.
People act like things don't bother them .. so people don't think they "have deeper rooted problems".
Having someone break into your home, throw you on the ground, beat you up, and rape you .. is not something a person should ever really truly "get over". If you could get over that "easily" .. then I would think something is wrong with you.

Meh, people dwell on themselves too much. So what if you got raped, if he did not cut off a limb in the process then you should move on.
so a little kid that is raped and sodomized for years by a parent, relative, or friend (or even a stranger that kidnaps them and assaults them) should just "get over it".

It's impossible to understand unless you have kids, in my opinion. Which people who don't have kids hate to hear, because they think you're implying some kind of elite club status and that you are are better than them in some way.
The bond between a parent and a child and the emotions involved are not the same as a partnership bond or merely applying elementary human solidarity or empathy to situations and people. It's more complex and profound than that. I like to think that parents think about things differently, though of course that doesn't explain the amount of shitty parents out there. Instead of being disappointed, just shrug it off.

Well Ms. High and Mighty, the way I see it there are two paths one can take after being buttfucked for years.
a) Cry, while setting yourself up for failure, then blaming the abuse as a cause. Rinse and repeat.
fake edit: Then when you're old enough, rape kids yourself.
b) Man up, get help, and get over the shit. Its not as impossible as the people in group A would make you think.
Most people fall into column b, I'm sorry you don't.

Not with that attitude.
Maybe they should rub some dirt in/on all the animals people choose to abuse and neglect too? Since it's not a big deal for it to happen. Instead of getting mad and wanting the animal abuser thrown under a moving bus.
Children and animals are along the same lines .. neither can fully protect themselves from what happens to them. They depend on adults to take care of them .. and when they don't .. the adult needs to be punished.
I guess Michael Vick should just serve his time and go right back to life as usual, right? He's gonn serve his time for society.
And then everyone should just "get over it" "shake it off" and "leave him alone about it".

You obviously dont know anyone whos ever had that happen to them. They don't usually do either of those things. It's a small percentage of people that turn into abusers themselves. Most of them don't make it that far in life.
They usually blame themselves for it happening .. they think thay caused it for whatever reason .. and they beat themselves up for years about it. That's why many don't even report it .. because they think it was somehow their fault that it happened. Quite often these people end up going so far into depression from blaming themselves for it happening .. that they end up dead because of it.
Children are easy to manipulate .. their minds don't work like adults do. They don't comprehend why the situation is happening. You take away the time they deserve/need to grow up .. it does things to their minds that aren't normal.

I dissagree with this. animals have fangs and claws and are quite capable of taking care of themselves. children are not.
a child is not the equal of a dog or cat and should never be thought of as such.

It's more along the lines of .. they depend on adults/humans to care for them .. the same as children do.
Like the child should just "buck it up" but then they feel sorry for animals that are hurt/abused/skittish due to abuse or neglect/.
My point was .. some people seem to fight harder for animals than they do kids
Claws aren't gonna help a cat that someone is kicking around a room. Same as a pocketknife won't help a 4yr old little girl who was kidnapped and being raped.

I think "get over it" is a little strong. Such an event can never be excused or forgotten but there are those use it as a crutch, either because they're not strong enough to live with it (not "get over it") or choose to allow it to consume them. The true test of character is how one faces adversity.

Moving target... we're talking about the victims, not the criminals. No one said they shouldn't be punished.

You're obviously making bad assumptions about me. Tis okay though.
Anyway, the thing you're overlooking is called survivorship bias. You don't hear about the people that don't have problems with it, because they don't have problems with it. Not everyone, or probably even most people, fit into your small abuse box. And you partially hit the nail on the head, children are easy to manipulate. That goes both ways...
is it just me or do the houses look like little penises?
