I just heard Fat Freddy's Drop (http://www.last.fm/music/Fat+Freddy's+Drop/_/Flashback) on Album 88 (http://www.wras.org) this morning. Very interesting jazz/r&b/hip-hop/soul thing from New Zealand. I thought I would share.
Anyone else got anything from a somewhere other than North America that worth a listen?

if you wanna heard an old NZ band that was really solid check out Supergroove. I think they only released one album but it was excellent.
Manu Chao is interesting.
For the rest of my international interests I'll refer you to beerad's excuse.
edit: oh, if you like that reggae type stuff check out Bedouin Soundclash. I know Canada isn't non-north american as requested but there's a pretty good shot they haven't made it to the US yet.

Quite.
I have also been listening to guqin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guqin) music. It is strangely bluesy for being a weird chinese instrument.

I am not sure if he qualifies but I am big fan of Bill Miller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Miller_%28musician%29). I first saw Bill Miller when he was the opening act for Tori Amos during her "Under the Pink" Tour.

Edit: He has been called the "Native American"'s Bob Dylan.

Is it wrong that I want to go to a Deftones concert just to see Dir en gray? I probably would stay for their set and then leave. I mean, Deftones are ok, but I don't really want to see them in concert.

I recommend staying for at least part of the Deftones show. Two reasons:
1) You might actually like it.
2) You avoid all the traffic when all the other people who aren't there to see them leave at the same time.
I went to a Fiona Apple show just to see Damien Rice open. I was very ready to bail when she started but was there with a couple women who wanted to see her. I spent a lot of time buying drinks and standing outside smoking.

i believe he still only has just the one studio album. there's also a live album though. i bought it at the show, but my sister promptly appropriated it so i haven't listened to it much. i mostly bought it so i wouldn't feel bad about having downloaded his first album anyway.

I am listening to Heaven Shall Burn from Germany.
Very very good stuff. Much like Unearth, but foreign ;)
Also Caliban is quite the
And I agree with you about Lacuna Coil, but only when the man starts "singing". The female isn't too terrible, but the man sucks more dick that I do at a pride parade, and it sounds like it, too.
Although I have seen Evanescence live and I can say Amy sucks ass live. She keeps trying to scream or something instead of sing and her voice has no control. Very disappointing actually :(

Not sure if it would count as he is from Canada I think, but Pavlo. From his website "A music that combines influences of Flamenco, Latin, Classical and Mediterranean guitar mixed together with the Greek Bouzouki." I saw him in concert a few years back and he was really good.
The Devlins- from Scotland, saw them on tour with Tori Amos in like 95ish.
