So this evening I went to the performance of The Great Gatsby by the Atlanta Ballet (http://www.atlantaballet.com/). Despite some heavy misgivings about why they would try and adept this to a ballet, I was quite pleasently entertained by a wonderful show. I think the costuming really added a great deal to the performances, but even without I enjoyed the show. (Though, it was hard to tell between Nick and Jay at first.)
At any rate, I just wanted to say if anyone was considering going, I would highly recommend it.

While I have nothing against the ballet and would consider going under other circumstances, I HATE THE GREAT GATSBY. It was truly the worst book we were forced to read in school and watching the movie did nothing to improve my opinion.

Beowulf. Complete piece of shit. You really think so? What translation were you reading?
I can agree that every movie adaptation I've seen of Beowulf sucks big time.

I don't remember. It was 13 years ago. But it bored me to tears. Just not my bag at all. I have a friend who's like "Duuuude, Beowulf!!!!!" All I can say is "Jesus Christ, I'd rather read Robert Jordan's 10 books describing women whining and pulling on their hair."

you don't have to read books for that. just go to a soccer game with soccer moms.

The Illiad was the worst book I had to read. I just used the Coles Notes for it though, and my brother's notes from when he took the class six years before from the same teacher. (exact same oral quizzes in class, I had all the answers)
The worst book I actually read for school was Wuthering Heights.

That's G-R-A-T-E Expectations, also by Edmund Wells.
Edit: let's see how many people get that reference . . .

My favorite ballet is Dracula. The Houston ballet performs it every five or so years. It is a great show!

I liked Beowulf okay, I could get through it. The worst for me was Cyrano De Bergerac. I mean come on, guy with a long nose who kicks everyone's ass then he dies cause someone threw a flower pot out a window and hits him in the head. wtf kind of anti-climactic ending is that?

I think The Great Gatsby is a chick novel. I can see why guys wouldn't want to read it. I thought it was okay. I can't comment on Beowulf since I've only ever seen it summarized with mud. I hated reading The Grapes of Wrath.
I love ballet though. Who composed the music for this performance you saw?

Really? I liked it. But we read it outloud, outside under the trees in great weather.

Meh, I actually consider Gatsby to be one of the better books I read while in school. Or, rather, I was required to read while in school.
I'll have to get back with you on who composed it. I believe I saw an email come in about how it was getting great reviews. (Not exactly surprised they won't send out horrible reviews. :) )

?? Why the link to the author of the book? The question was about who composed the ballet, right?

Perhaps my question wasn't clear, but I wanted to know who did the music for the ballet you saw.

No, your question was good. Though, I simply didn't get around to looking up the answer. :)
Of course, the simplest answer with regards to just the music is that it was a collection of pieces. Some of it was 50s music. I remember Rhapsody in Blue. That is about it.... I'll see if I can find a full list of songs used later.
The choreography is detailed here (http://www.atlantaballet.com/new/performances/gatsby_choreographer.htm)
