A game from the early-mid 80s run on, I believe, the Apple IIe that revolved around vampires and the occult. It was a text game that offered choices and crude images as you traveled along. We used to play it in school - it was out when Transformers were first popular because we were making a stop-action movie with our Transformers in class around this time.

Tons of text adventures are made every year. They call the genre interactive fiction nowadays. You can find many examples at the underdogs, which I think is at http://www.the-underdogs.info at the moment.
