View Full Version : How far would you go to lose weight?

So I heard an ad on the radio on my way to work this morning about a research study offering $1000 to individuals who are willing to try a new diet program. They mentioned a website and I made a mental note of it. Seemed interesting. Who doesn't want to lose weight and get paid a grand for it??? Talk about motivation!!
I get to work, pull up the website, answer their little questionaire and quickly become congratulated on being accepted to their program! I'm then instructed to call an 800 number to talk with a "diet counselor".
After talking to his lady for a few minutes, I realize I'm being pitched. Basically the diet plan entails an every other day diet. Every other day we eat these wafers made from some organic root, and all the fruit we desire, and alternate days we eat as we normally would. The plan provides a 90 day supply of these wafers as well as vitamin supplements... all for the bargain price of $300. (Which is fully refundable upon completion of the program)
Now, my red flags went off as soon as this lady asked for my credit card number, but I figured, what the heck? Why not? I was going to do NutriSystem anyway and that is $300 for 28 days, so why not take a chance on this?
So the deal is, they send me my 90 day supply of wafers, vitamins, and paperwork, I go to a doctor and get my current weight documented... I follow the program for 90 days, at the end of which I go to a doctor again to get my weight documented, then I write a testimonial (omg I could be in a weight loss commercial!! nyuk nyuk) and after that's all done, I get my $1000 as well as my $300 back, and I lose this annoying 30 pounds I'm carrying around with as little effort as possible.
So worst case scenario, I'm out $300, best case, I get my $300 back, make $1k, I'm back to a single digit pant size and could possibly get to be in a diet commercial.
This will be interesting

I wonder what circumstances force you to lose your $1000. You should probably check the fine print, because I imagine they have all kinds of crazy exclusions that might keep you from getting it.
I've never had a problem with weight thus far. My genetics have (thankfully) kept me from having to worry about it. I eat pretty much whatever I feel like whenever I feel like it.
Sure, I go through points where I get "soft" if don't work out, but I can build back up after 3-5 weeks when I choose to.

I didn't want to take a medication because I'm hypersensitive to that kind of stuff. Diet pills, caffeine pills, energy pills, that's all ruled out.
They aren't charging me the second $75 till next month (if they do, then I'll know it's a scam and my cc has fraud protection)
And this way I can still drink mass quantities. :fly: (Just every other day)

I don't get how the NutriSystem works....you're paying money to have someone else restrict your diet? Or is their food really that much healthier than you'd get by spending the same at the grocery store buying healthy foods?
Clenbuterol, on the other hand...dude, I wouldn't trust that shit. I can't see taking pills to alter weight unless there's some serious medical condition associated with that.
eat healthier, get more excercise. :P not that difficult. not saying one should go out and overpay for all organic foods and count calories and spend two hours at the gym every day but cutting out artificial sweeteners and reducing the amount of processed food you take in along with some sheer and simple walking or jogging every single day is going to be cheaper and safer than taking some drug. not to mention losing weight is nothing more than a vanity issue; being healthy is a different thing altogether and the latter option actually promotes good health, taking pills just makes you drop weight and not necessarily in a good way

According to the show we watched last night, he was a big time steroid user. He would use dirty needles as well and ended up with a massive infection in his bicep.
It was really really gross.
I mean it's gross without the swelling of a massive infection, but it's compounded.

Save your money and go and buy a book on nutrition. Or even get yourself that south beach diet book. Simply changing what you eat can lead to weight loss. I know.
I've had great success with starting out using the South Beach Diet plan. I've also kept the weight off which is usually an issue w/ diets.
I tend to eat properly 5 days out of the week, that way if we have dinner out or a party to attend I just eat what I want. Then the next day it's back to eating sensibly.
Next on the list, for me, at least is to start doing some excercise to tone up my new skinny self.

Synthol? Isn't that what they drank at 10 Forward on Star Trek? Or Maybe it's a motor oil.
Coqui

Synthol? Isn't that what they drank at 10 Forward on Star Trek? Or Maybe it's a motor oil.
Synthol is composed of 85% medium-chain triglyceride oils (a fatty acid), 7.5% lidocaine (painkiller), and 7.5 5 benzyl alcohol. The preparation is injected deep into the muscle where it is encapsulated between the fascicles (bundles of muscle fibers) . With repeated injections, a larger volume of oil builds up inside the muscle, expanding its size like a balloon filling up with air. About 30% of what is injected is metabolized by the body. The other 70% remains lodged in the muscle where it breaks down very slowly over three to five years. There seems to be some issue of debate among bodybuilders as to whether or not Synthol actually lasts this long, and some believe it is even longer. Chris Clark, its inventor, is convinced that it somehow leads to permanent muscle growth in the effected areas, though even he is unsure of the mechanisms that would make this possible. Synthol users report amazing pumps while training, though this could be a result of the extra pressure of the accumulated oil.

Yes, it's primarily about 'size'/appearance rather than improved strength/fitness.
This of course applies only to those freaks in the muscle magazines that compete on the professional level.

Synthol it's an oil used to make the muscles look bigger. It's crap. It messes up your muscles and it's very noticable. Can get you banned sometimes.
Greg V. is a freak. He injected everything he could in his arms. One bicep looks odd becuase it became massive infected and they cut a chunk out.
Body builders are not power lifters. Power lifters are usually husky.
Body builders that lift crazy heavy get hurt and can't compete anymore.

He writes a colum for Muscular Development. His nickname is the Rambling Freak. His colum is always just insane. He has destroyed his brain and he didn't have much to begin with. His arms got so big thet he couldn't do stuff like brush his teeth except for ones with very long built on handles. When they are that big you limit their movement.

Its a lot more then just calorie counting. It's a point system (my mom successfully lost 25lbs on it) and it also focuses alot on portion sizes, and teaching you about nutrition. Counting calories dosen't always work. You also have to look at fat content etc...

Far more important than fat content or calorie counting is the quality of the food you're eating. The human body needs fat, it needs sugar, it needs carbs, and it needs calories. Simply cutting those may help someone drop weight but it's not necessarily going to make that person healthier. Avoiding processed foods, especially those containing artificial sweeteners (which make diet sodas ridiculously counterproductive - you'll gain more weight with diet coke than regular) and preservatives, and ensuring that the foods you eat provide you with enough nutrients in addition to the fat, carbs, protien, and calories your body needs is going to help more than simply treating calories and fat like a math problem.
Though I've heard conflicting reports about mutlivitamin supplements  I have a nutritionist that says to stay away from them but others day they're perfectly fine. Either way I'm listening to my guy and getting what I need from V8 and 100% fruit juices. :D
