...and I have a question. Are zombies afraid of the water? How would they cross a lake or ocean if they wanted to? Would they sink and walk across the lakebed? Or would they fall into the water and thrash about aimlessly?

In the classic "Zombie" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080057/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnxteD0yMHxzZz0xfGxtPTIwMHx0dD1vbnxwbj 0wfHE9em9tYmllfGh0bWw9MXxubT1vbg__;fc=2;ft=98;fm=1 ) by Lucio Fulci ,the zombies can live and travel under water.

Some would float and would have a hard time getting anywhere becuase they have poor coordination. Some would stumble across the bottom of the ocean but have problems traversing mud, trenches, etc. I have no fear of a water zombie just the damn land ones.

How would they make themselves sink to the bottom?

Flying out to a deserted island in the middle of an ocean seems like the best way to go in most of these movies, but I've always wondered if the zombies would find them.

Well they don't need oxygen, rite? (assumption) and so their organs would be empty, meaning they wouldn't float so if they put up minimal resistance then they'd sink to the bottom. :)

yeah but in most of those movies, the zombies are all rotten and stuff, so I don't know how well that theory works. Pieces of 'em would be fish food and there probably wouldn't be a whole lot left by the time they get to the bottom.

Well all their muscles would be dead, so in theory there would have to be some evil gross chemical in their body to keep them going without having to aerobically respire, so the fish wouldn't wanna eat em. ;)

Bodies don't float forever. The gas bloat passes and then they sink. Plus the gases can escpae through the holes they get. So they could walk/moon bounce along the bottom somewhat but they would be slow.

The running zombies could probably do it. But would the shambling zombies have the strength and forward power to go through water?

They would probably have a hard time fighting currents too.
So even if they COULD live underwater, theyd all end up in south america or on the jersy shore someplace

So, if zombification is explained as hell running out of room, then wouldn't those people that were good enough to go to heaven not zombify when killed?

Duh. But, eventually, they would catch up. If they stayed in the boat they'd be fine, since the zombies probably couldn't get over the sides. But if they landed on an island the zombies could get there, possibly.

I don't understand zombies. If you have to behead them because the brain is still functioning...it requires some sort of oxygen even if it's very little. Zombies should still breath even slightly in order to retain this.
So, I'm of firm mind and wang, that zombies could never exist in the ways we imagine them. When I think of a zombie, I think of something that is conciously inert, but still has bodily neccesties such as oxygen and sustenance.

What if you took a boat to an offshore oil drilling platform? After you cleared it of any zombies wouldn't you be safe there? How long can a zombie exist before totally decomposing so much they can't fight? Couldn't the government from spray something to help spend up the decomposition? Something like they bugs they use in museums to remove flesh from bones?

iirc, not all cellular activity requires oxygen, some work anarobically.

In some zombie movies it was due to a chemical weapon the government was developing that got into the water table and then into the atmosphere and was rained down onto people etc. Then it was spread by bites, saliva, etc.

Yeah, the inital infection is whats in question here.
The George Romero movies never really specified what caused it, altho, IIRC in a few of the newscasts you hear, there is speculation of some kind of "space radiation" or some shit.

Other people with the same idea traveled to the island?
Maybe the infection was spread overnight to anyone that died at a particular time all over the world?
